Huntsville Alumnae 2012 Scholarship Awards

The Scholarship Committee is now accepting applications for 2012 Academic Tuition Scholarship awards. Awards are available to African American high school seniors attending any public or private high school within Madison County. Students must plan to attend Alabama A&M University, the University of Alabama Huntsville, J.F. Drake State Technical College, or Calhoun Community College as a full-time student. The required GPA is 3.0 or above and awards are for tuition only. The scholarship application package is available for downloading in the “Forms” section under “2012 Scholarship Award Application” on this website.

All applications and required documents must be received by January 31, 2012.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Violence impacts women from all backgrounds and ages. According to the Domestic Violence Resource Center, one in four women has experienced domestic violence in her life. Nearly three out of four of Americans personally know someone who is or has been a victim of domestic violence. Sometimes women are attacked by

strangers, but most often they are hurt by individual(s) close to them, such as a husband or partner. On average, more than three women and one man are murdered by their intimate partners in this country every day.

Not only does violence impact the individual, it impacts the entire community. If you are hurting, I am hurting. If you have questions about domestic violence or need support, call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 800-799-SAFE or locally contact Crisis Services of North Alabama Helpline at 256-716-1000.
